Yesterday being the first working day of August, the district was a very busy place. Administrative Council members reported for their first official day of work, fall sports practices began, and many teachers continued working in their rooms. Summer vacation, which is quickly coming to an end, really isn’t much of a vacation for most school folks. Kids spend many hours, some very early ones, at school practicing extra and co-curricular activities, lifting weights, and participating in camps. Teachers plan and work on lessons, attend classes, participate in workshops, and complete trainings. They write and rewrite curriculum, develop and improve lessons, and learn how to incorporate new technology. All of this off season work will be evident when school begins on August 20th.
While we are all excited about the first day, the funny thing is that it will be over before we know it. The very things we have anticipated and planned for will be over, and the cycle will begin again. It is my hope that when this New Year is behind us, we can look back and say it was one of the best ever. I hope when our graduates leave in May, we are confident that we worked together to develop a group of lifelong learners who will positively contribute to society.
